Elaborate geometric borders frame the entire composition, alive with the densest Madhubani fill patterns, depicting wedding-specific motifs of palanquins, the bridal couple, and a tapestry of auspicious symbols. What is the origin of this design?
This design is inspired by the traditional Madhubani 'kohbar' painting, created by women in Mithila for the nuptial chamber to bless a new couple with fertility, union, and prosperity.
What do the symbols in the mural represent?
The bamboo symbolises male fertility, the lotus female fertility, fish represent prosperity, parrots signify enduring love, and the sun and moon are cosmic witnesses to the union.
