What the mural describes.
The Medway mural invites you into a world of rich, dark botanical splendour, a tribute to Kent's storied orchards and hop gardens. Against a Deep Umber ground, the darkest in our river series, a dense tapestry of swirling leaves and hop-like tendrils unfurls. Large, luminous flowers in Blossom Cream and Warm Rose emerge from the shadows like lanterns, their petals soft and inviting. Gold Cone accents highlight the bines heavy with their resinous harvest, while varying shades of Hop Green and Deep Green give depth to the verdant foliage. Copper stems connect this intricate dance of nature, creating a visual embrace that is warm, productive, and utterly captivating.
Medway is perfectly suited for dining rooms and sitting rooms, where its dark, enveloping beauty can foster an atmosphere of convivial warmth and understated luxury. Asked of the studio.
What is the primary inspiration behind the Medway design?
The Medway design is inspired by the River Medway in Kent, celebrating the county's famous hop gardens and orchards, particularly the abundant harvest season Morris would have known.
How does Medway compare to other designs in the river series?
Medway is one of the densest and darkest in the river series. It features a warmer palette and a more intricate botanical vocabulary than designs like Kennet or Windrush, combining the complexity of Evenlode with a distinct orchard-rich character.
