The Composition

What the mural describes.

Imagine an English manor house drawing room, late October. The curtains are drawn, the fire crackles, and around you, the walls bloom with a chintz steeped in time. What was once a bright floral, hung from a Liberty sample book in the 1890s, has gracefully surrendered to the years. Rambling roses, once pink, now echo the hue of dried blood, their petals subtly varied, lighter at the edges where light has kissed them longest. Trailing stems, a rich dark brown-green, weave a loose, organic rhythm, while leaves, almost black-green, become whispers against a ground the colour of strong coffee. This is not a reproduction, but a genuine patina of smoke, sunlight, and damp, transforming a cheerful garden into a dark, tender dream.

This mural finds its true home in a drawing room or sitting room, where its abundance and nostalgic darkness can envelop you in warmth. Each mural is made to your wall's exact measurements, supplied as numbered drop panels on a luxurious matt non-woven paste-the-wall paper, ensuring a seamless and enduring transformation of your space.

How It Arrives

Each mural is printed to the exact measurements you submit — width, height, and drop — then supplied as sequentially numbered panels, ready to hang in order. Paste system: standard overlap paste, seams pattern-matched. No trimming required.

We work with a trusted network of specialist paperhangers. At the order stage we can introduce a recommended installer in your area — or supply full installation notes for your own hanger.

Questions

Asked of the studio.

What is the primary aesthetic of the Noir Chintz Heritage mural?

The Noir Chintz Heritage mural embodies nostalgic darkness and the warmth of faded elegance. It evokes the feeling of a grandmother's drawing room after the lamps have been turned low, offering a tender and domestic mood rather than anything gothic or overtly theatrical.

How would you describe the colour palette?

The palette is a sophisticated blend of deep, muted tones: an 'Aged Linen Ground' that is near-black brown, 'Dried Rose' for the primary floral, 'Foxed Leaf' in a near-black green, 'Faded Stem' in dark brown-green, and 'Parchment Ghost' as the lightest, ghost-like cream tone.

What kind of patterns or motifs are featured?

The mural features rambling roses, trailing stems, and scattered smaller blooms, characteristic of traditional chintz. It presents an organised chaos, reminiscent of an English cottage garden rendered on a wall, with a loose diagonal rhythm.

Is this a modern or historical design?

While its origins are firmly historical, drawn from late 19th-century chintz, its dark, muted palette and rich texture give it a modern maximalist appeal. It's a timeless design that bridges eras.

What is the material used for this mural?

All our murals are printed on a luxurious matt non-woven paste-the-wall paper. This material is chosen for its quality, ease of installation, and beautiful finish.
