Thumbnail-sized fragments of Carrara white, Rosso Verona red, Verde Alpi green, Nero Marquina black, and Giallo Siena yellow marble are scattered democratically across a warm, creamy matrix. Thin brass strips glint softly, dividing the surface into large, elegant geometric panels, all polished to a soft, inviting sheen. What is terrazzo alla veneziana?
Terrazzo alla veneziana is an ancient Venetian flooring technique where marble chips are embedded in a cement matrix and polished to a smooth, reflective surface. It originated in the 15th century as a way to reuse marble fragments.
