What is the primary inspiration behind the Dark Paisley design?
Dark Paisley draws its inspiration from a 19th-century Kashmir shawl, discovered in a London antiques market. The design captures the deepened, richer colours of the aged, woven fabric, particularly the oxidised indigo ground and the glowing boteh motifs.
How does the mural create a sense of movement?
The interlocking boteh forms vary in size and flow with a diagonal bias, creating a dynamic, tessellating pattern. The dark ground intensifies this kinetic quality, allowing the forms to drift and swirl without a fixed anchor for the eye, much like flames seen through smoked glass.
