The Composition

What the mural describes.

The entire composition is seen from below: the viewer lies in the meadow grass and looks up through a curtain of wildflowers reaching toward an unseen sky, the warm white paper showing through every gap like light glimpsed between stems. Wild grass emerges from the base as loose wet-into-wet washes of olive and sap green, each blade a single brushstroke bleeding softly at its edges. Above, the procession rises — dense and overlapping at the ground, airy and scattered toward the top, as a real meadow thins from root to sky. Poppies appear as translucent scarlet washes through which the paper itself seems to glow, pigment pooling at each petal's edge in a darker red crescent, their black centres tiny explosions with pale radiating stamens. Cornflowers cluster in that specific ultramarine-violet no other flower quite matches, loose enough that blue bleeds into adjacent green stems. Queen Anne's lace floats its constellations of white dots — each floret suggested by the paper left in reserve beneath a pale wash. Ox-eye daisies turn upward with reserved-paper petals and warm golden centres. Wild scabious, red clover, and tiny cadmium-yellow buttercups fill the middle values. A dandelion clock, gone to seed, hovers its silver sphere among the taller flowers. A blue butterfly in basking pose rests on a grass stem at mid-height; a ladybird clings to a poppy stem below. Light is diffuse and everywhere — the overcast English summer luminosity where every petal glows from within.

This mural brings the upward energy of a living meadow into a hallway, playroom, kitchen or dining room — the sense that the wall itself has grown something.
