Lit by a single warm amber source from the upper left, this mural arranges its specimens in the Dutch vanitas tradition: beauty at its most exact just as it begins to turn. At the centre, a large dusty-rose bloom sits overblown — outer petals drooping, one about to detach, edges browning in the most delicate way — rendered with complete photorealistic conviction. To its left a deep burgundy dahlia emerges from shadow, its wine-red so dark it reads almost black at the outer petals; to the right, a youthful cream garden rose offers a luminous counterpoint. Two cream anemones occupy the upper zone, their near-black disc centres providing the sharpest graphic note in the composition. A tiny red-orange ladybird, perched on a drooping petal, is the painting's quiet reward — discoverable only on close inspection.
