The Composition

What the mural describes.

This mural works in three distinct depth planes in the de Gournay tradition, all unified on a textured sage-celadon silk ground (#c8d4c0) with visible gouache and watercolour brushwork. The far background dissolves in a soft morning sky wash and barely-there mist — distant hills and pale celadon architecture absorbed into the ground tone, atmospheric rather than defined. The mid-ground plane is built around two ancient plum tree trunks: the main trunk rises in a diagonal sweep from lower-left, its dark warm-umber bark detailed with fissures and textures; a thinner secondary trunk enters from the mid-right in a gentler arc. A weathered scholar's rock grounds the composition at the base. The foreground plane is where the painting lives: dense clusters of white plum blossoms burst from the upper-left branches, with softer shell-pink blossoms adorning the right trunk. A jewel-bright Eurasian blue tit — cobalt cap, lemon-yellow breast — perches on a mid-height branch and commands immediate attention through pure chromatic contrast. A Japanese white-eye is caught in mid-flight across the open central space, wings spread, lime-green breast the warmest note in the scene. Falling petals drift between branches; a painted-lady butterfly navigates among them. Deep in the white blossoms, almost invisible, a long-tailed tit betrays its position only by an absurdly long tail feather.

A panoramic mural suited to formal dining rooms, large master suites, hotel foyers and ground-floor studies with good natural light. The open sky zone accommodates furniture placement without obscuring key elements. Printed to exact dimensions on paste-the-wall non-woven; custom colourways including richer ground tones or altered blossom colours available.
