The Composition

What the mural describes.

You are transported to Luoyang, China, in the heart of its annual Peony Festival, where magnificent tree peonies bloom in breathtaking splendour. Against a lustrous, warm ivory silk ground, vivid magenta, regal deep purple, and radiant butter gold blossoms unfurl, their petals ruffled and layered with an extravagance befitting Chinese imperial taste. The legendary Luoyang green peony, the city's pride, adds a rare and exquisite touch. Each blossom is rendered in the meticulous gongbi tradition, with every petal precisely outlined in warm black ink and filled with graduated colour washes, revealing the patience of a millennium-old technique. Look more closely and discover a pair of mandarin ducks, subtle butterflies, and the faint sheen of the silk ground beneath the blossoms.

This celebratory tableau transforms a dining room into a space of refined elegance and joyful grandeur, inviting conversation and lingering moments. Crafted to your wall's precise dimensions, each numbered drop panel arrives ready for installation, printed on premium matt non-woven paste-the-wall paper for a seamless and enduring finish.

How It Arrives

A roll, a paste, a named hanger.

Each mural is printed to the exact measurements you submit — width, height, and drop — then supplied as sequentially numbered panels, ready to hang in order. Paste system: standard overlap paste, seams pattern-matched. No trimming required.

We work with a trusted network of specialist paperhangers. At the order stage we can introduce a recommended installer in your area — or supply full installation notes for your own hanger.

Questions

Asked of the studio.

What is the 'gongbi' technique mentioned in the description?

Gongbi is a traditional Chinese meticulous brush painting style characterised by fine, detailed outlines and precise, layered colour washes. It creates a highly refined and realistic depiction, often seen in imperial art.

Are tree peonies different from garden peonies?

Yes, tree peonies (Paeonia suffruticosa) are woody shrubs that can grow quite large and live for decades, producing enormous, often ruffled blooms. They differ from the herbaceous peonies commonly found in European gardens, which die back to the ground each winter.
